Wisper Field turns your voice into polished text. Doing that means processing your voice, so you deserve a plain-English explanation of what we collect, what happens to it, and what never happens to it. That's this page.

The short version

  • We only capture audio during a dictation you started. Recording continues if you switch back to the app you're typing in, and stops when the dictation ends. We never record outside a dictation.
  • We don't keep your audio on our servers. It's processed to produce your text, then discarded.
  • We don't sell your data, show ads, or collect what you type on the keyboard.
  • You can delete your account (and the data that goes with it) right in the app.

Who we are

Wisper Field makes the Wisper Field app and keyboard for iPhone, available at wisperfield.com and on the App Store. For anything in this policy (questions, requests, complaints), email support@wisperfield.com.

What we collect

  • Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address (with Sign in with Apple, you can hide your email). You can try Wisper Field before signing in; creating an account lets your plan and subscription follow you.
  • Dictation audio. Captured only when you start a dictation and stopped when the dictation ends. The keyboard itself cannot record audio (iOS forbids it), so recording happens in the Wisper Field app, and only after you've granted microphone permission.
  • Transcripts. The text produced from your dictations is saved to your history on your device so you can copy or retry a dictation.
  • Your customizations. Custom dictionary entries, snippets, tone settings, and notes are stored on your device. Your dictionary and tone settings travel with each dictation so it can be spelled and styled the way you chose: they're used to process that dictation, not kept on our servers.
  • Usage counts. We count how many words you dictate each week (that's how the free plan's weekly limit works) and how many minutes of audio you stream each day, to prevent abuse. These are counts, not content.
  • Subscription status. Whether you're on the free plan or Pro. Payments go through the App Store; we never see your card number or billing details.
  • Diagnostics. Crash reports and basic performance data, so we can find and fix problems.

How dictation works

When you dictate, audio streams from the Wisper Field app over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to an AI speech service to transcribe. An AI language model then cleans the transcript (removing filler words and fixing punctuation), and the finished text is sent back to your keyboard and inserted where you were typing. Your custom dictionary and tone settings travel with the dictation so names are spelled right and the style matches what you chose.

We use a small number of service providers to make this work, and they process your data only to provide the service:

  • Google (Firebase and Google Cloud): sign-in, our database, and the servers that relay your dictations.
  • OpenAI: speech-to-text and text cleanup. Under its API terms, OpenAI does not use this data to train its models.
  • RevenueCat: manages subscription status alongside the App Store. Apple processes the payment itself.

These providers may retain data briefly for security and abuse monitoring under their own policies, and each publishes its own privacy documentation.

What we don't do

  • No ads, no selling. We don't sell, rent, or share your personal data for advertising. Our only business is subscriptions.
  • No audio hoarding. Our servers don't store your recordings: audio is streamed, transcribed, and discarded. Your device may keep a temporary local copy of a dictation's audio so an interrupted dictation can be retried; it stays on your phone.
  • No training on your words. We don't use your audio or transcripts to train AI models. If we ever offer an option to share transcripts to help improve accuracy, it will be strictly opt-in and off by default.
  • No keystroke collection. Regular typing on the Wisper Field keyboard happens on your device and is not sent to us. The keyboard interacts only with the text field you're actively typing in. It can't read your other apps or their data. The QWERTY keyboard works even without Full Access; that permission exists so the keyboard can talk to the Wisper Field app and insert your dictated text.

Storage and security

Your account data lives in Google Firebase. Everything moving between your phone, our servers, and our providers is encrypted in transit (TLS), and Google Cloud encrypts stored data at rest. Access to production data is restricted to what's needed to run and support the service.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You're in control of ending that:

  • Delete your account in the app: open the menu, tap Account, and tap Delete account. This is permanent: it removes your account data on our servers (your profile, usage counts, and subscription record) and clears your dictionary words, snippets, notes, and settings from your device.
  • Data on your device: transcripts are removed when you sign out or delete the app; dictionary entries, snippets, notes, and settings are removed when you delete your account or the app.
  • Or just ask. Email support@wisperfield.com and we'll delete your data for you.

Usage counts and diagnostics may persist briefly in backups and logs after deletion, and are then purged on a rolling basis.

Your rights and how to reach us

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal data at any time. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or CCPA give you formal rights to do these things, but you don't need to cite a law with us. Email support@wisperfield.com and we'll help, wherever you are. You can also visit our support page.

Children

Wisper Field is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the update here and revise the effective date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also tell you in the app. Your continued use of Wisper Field after a change means you accept the updated policy. See also our terms of service.
